Yunchu’s Vengeance - Chapter 244

Chapter 244 - Xie Shiyun Looks for His Mother

Yun Ze's expression was exceptionally dark and heavy.

He would never give a second chance to anyone who dared to lay a hand on their own clan members.

Because where there was a first time, there would inevitably be a second. If someone committed evil the first time without paying a price, a second attempt was bound to follow.

This time, Chuchu happened to anticipate it, but what about next time?

"Fourth Uncle, this matter is not something that money can resolve." Yun Ze spoke word by word, his voice laced with unquestionable resolve. "The Yun family is currently in a turbulent, event-filled time; we cannot afford a single mistake."

Lady Lin stepped forward: "Our Yun family has always been united as one, which is precisely how we managed to weather so many storms and stand tall in the capital for a hundred years without falling. Madam Tian, for a sliver of profit, you actually struck out at a clan member. If an even greater profit is placed before you in the future, I cannot be certain whether you will choose profit or choose to betray the Yun family. I do not believe the Yun family can accommodate you any longer."

Fourth Aunt Yun, Madam Tian, widened her eyes in utter disbelief: "What does Eldest Sister-in-law mean by these words? Do you wish to drive me out of the Yun family?"

Yun Siyuan spoke up: "Isn't this a bit too extreme?"

"How is it too extreme!" Third Aunt Yun sneered cold laughter. "Today she dares to play a malicious hand against Aunt Guilan, tomorrow she'll dare to lay hands on you, her own husband! Today she bought Qianyuancao from who knows where, and in a while, she might secretly buy arsenic instead. When someone dies by then, it will be far too late for regrets!"

The members of the Yun clan inside the hall nodded one after another.

They were not worried that Madam Tian would act against Yun Siyuan, but rather afraid that if they accidentally offended Madam Tian one day, she would play a covert, malicious hand against them.

Madam Tian denied it immediately: "Impossible! I would never do such a thing!"

Yun Ze looked toward Yun Siyuan and said, "Fourth Uncle has two choices now. The first is to divorce your wife and ask Fourth Aunt to leave the Yun family genealogy."

"Forcing someone to divorce his wife will draw down lightning from the heavens!" Fourth Aunt Yun, Madam Tian, shrieked in rage. "Yun Ze, you wretched boy! Where on earth have I offended you that you want to force your Fourth Uncle to do such a thing?!"

"The second choice." Yun Ze spoke in an orderly, deliberate manner, "Madam Tian committed attempted murder. We report it to the authorities and ask the government officials to step in and investigate this case thoroughly, levying whatever punishment is due."

Madam Tian was utterly stunned.

Being divorced was naturally out of the question, but being handed over to the government officials was visibly far more terrifying.

Yun Siyuan said in a heavy voice, "Is there really no third choice? Yun Ze, do you truly have to drive things to such an absolute extreme?"

"My eldest brother is now the helm-holder of the Yun family. Every single decision he makes considers the well-being of everyone in the Yun family and the interests of the entire clan," Yun Chu spoke up in a gentle yet deliberate voice. "It is not that my eldest brother is driving things to an extreme, but rather that the wall of unity forged by the Yun family cannot be destroyed at the hands of any single individual. Fourth Uncle, I hope you can understand."

Yun Siyuan clenched his fists tightly.

The members of the Yun family had always been united; no matter what happened, they stood firmly on the same line. That was the primary reason the Yun family had endured for a century.

In all these years, only a single Madam Tian had emerged to actually poison someone of the same clan.

Forget the main family lineage being unable to tolerate her; among the numerous members of the branch lines present, not a single person pleaded for mercy on Madam Tian's behalf.

Yun Siyuan looked toward his wife: "Two paths—the power of choice is placed in your hands."

Madam Tian went frantic all at once: "I bore sons and daughters for the Yun family, exhausting my heart and mind with hard labor! Is this how your Yun family treats me?! I won't choose! I won't choose either of the two paths!"

"You are the one who did wrong, yet you still claim to be in the right?" Third Aunt Yun wore a look of utter disdain. "Yun Ze, don't waste any more breath on her. From the moment she harbored malicious intent, she ceased to be a member of our Yun family. It's fine if she doesn't choose; tomorrow morning, have the government officials come to arrest her!"

Yun Ze spoke up: "It shall be as Third Aunt says."

Yun Chu said gently, "Aunt Guilan needs rest. Everyone, please disperse."

She looked toward Physician Bi: "I must trouble Physician Bi."

If not for her connection with Prince Pingxi, it would not have been so easy to invite this person over.

Physician Bi chuckled amiably: "A minor effort, not worth mentioning."

This was, after all, the future Consort Pingxi—the person Chu Yi held on the very tip of his heart. Naturally, he had to grant her the respect of making the trip.

Early the next morning, when Yun Chu returned to the Yun family estate for a meal, she heard her eldest brother mention that Yun Siyuan and Madam Tian had written a deed of mutual separation, choosing a harmonious divorce rather than a forced repudiation.

Although the members of the Yun family came from a military background, most of them were broad-minded and generous. Even when his bedmate committed such an act, Yun Siyuan did not drive things to the absolute extreme, giving Madam Tian ample face.

"Hopefully she can reflect on herself properly and stop causing further trouble." Lady Lin shook her head, putting the matter behind them.

Smiling brightly, she pinched the little cheek of Chu Changsheng, who was snuggled in Yun Chu's arms: "Sheng-ge'er, how about Maternal Grandmother takes you out for a stroll?"

The little girl blinked her big eyes and looked toward Yun Chu. Seeing Yun Chu nod with a smile, she tilted her head and slowly spoke up: "Okay."

Naturally, Yun Chu accompanied them along the way.

The three of them rode in a carriage and pulled up at the entrance of the largest jewelry shop in the street.

Lady Lin immediately had the servants present the newest sets of jewelry, purchasing three sets of gold and jade hair ornaments for Changsheng in one go: "Sheng-ge'er, it's not suitable for you to wear these right now, but once you grow up in the future, all of these will be part of your dowry."

"Th-Thank you, Maternal Grandmother..." Chu Changsheng said obediently, "I like it very much."

Lady Lin's face was filled with marvel: "Sheng-ge'er speaks better and better! Just think, three months ago, she couldn't even call out for her mother. A child with a mother truly is different."

Yun Chu showed off with a touch of pride: "Changsheng can even recite the Three-Character Classic now! Come, recite it for Maternal Grandmother."

The little girl sat up straight at once, swaying her head as she began to recite: "At human birth, nature is fundamentally good..."

Although her voice was very small, and she stumbled awkwardly at times with long pauses, she indeed managed to recite more than half of it.

Lady Lin was overjoyed: "Sheng-ge'er is truly amazing! Come, Maternal Grandmother will take you to buy a few more pieces of clothing. Our Sheng-ge'er ought to wear the most beautiful clothes in this world."

Yun Chu was also thinking that she needed to visit the cloth shop to select some fabrics and embroidery thread. Last time, she had promised to embroider a sachet for Prince Pingxi, so it was high time she prepared for it.

The three of them walked along the bustling street toward the Yun family's own cloth shop.

Before they even reached the destination, Lady Lin suddenly spoke up: "Chuchu, look up ahead. That child, isn't that Yun-ge'er?"

Yun Chu looked in the direction of Lady Lin's pointing finger and saw a child walking along the street while crying, without a single adult by his side.

She had only been away from the Xie family for a short period, having just separated from the Xie family members; how could she fail to recognize that this child was Xie Shiyun?

"What is going on here?" Lady Lin said with a hint of surprise. "How could the Xie family let such a small child come out all by himself? Why is he crying like this? Where did the adults go? What if the child gets lost?"

Just as they were speaking, Xie Shiyun suddenly raised his head toward their direction, then came sprinting toward them at full speed.

A horse carriage happened to drive past along the road, almost running him over. Xie Shiyun scrambled out of the way, taking a fall in the process, but he immediately scrambled up from the ground and ran straight toward Yun Chu.

Lady Lin instinctively shielded Yun Chu behind her.

She was genuinely somewhat afraid that the Xie family members would do something bad to Chuchu again.

"Mother!" Xie Shiyun stopped right in front of them, wailing at the top of his lungs. "I beg Mother to help me find my aunt! My aunt is gone... Grandmother and Eldest Brother are unwilling to go look for her. They said I won't have an aunt anymore... Boohoo... Mother, I beg you..."
