S.C.I. (Volume I) - Case 1: Chapter 12

The Digital Killer 12: University C's Psychology Department

After eating lunch, Bai Yutang drove with Zhan Zhao to the area outside the north gate of University C.

The two got out of the car, and Bai Yutang took a moment to observe the terrain around the north gate.

"Hey! Mouse! I'm going to class now, do whatever you want!" Holding his lesson plan, Zhan Zhao wanted to head straight inside.

"Hold on!" Bai Yutang pulled him back. "I'm going in with you!"

Startled!

"What are you going for?"

Bai Yutang smiled harmlessly. "You teach criminal psychology, right? I happen to be a master detective. Let me give a little guest lecture to your students."

Zhan Zhao looked at him sideways. "Do you suspect my students?"

"Heh heh..." Bai Yutang smiled without answering. He reached out, slung his arm over Zhan Zhao's shoulder, and walked inside with him. "Generally speaking, the less someone looks like a killer, the more likely they are to be one!"

"Is that your intuition again?? Aren't you police officers supposed to rely on evidence? I deal in science! I don't write mystery novels!" As he spoke, he swatted at Bai Yutang's hand. "Take your paw off me!"

Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao had been bickering since childhood, so they didn't think anything was wrong with this behavior. But in the eyes of onlookers, the two were practically pulling and tugging at each other, with Bai Yutang grinning playfully while Zhan Zhao glared furiously...

"Doctor Zhan!"

A voice suddenly rang out behind them. "Do you need any help?"

Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang turned around to see a refined, polite male student wearing glasses standing behind them, clutching his books and looking at Bai Yutang with a vigilant expression.

Bai Yutang smiled nonchalantly.

Seeing that it was Li Feifan, a student from the psychology department, Zhan Zhao hurriedly waved his hands to explain. "Uh... no, it's fine. We are friends."

"Oh..." Li Feifan nodded, but he still cast a slightly suspicious glance at Bai Yutang before heading toward the building.

"Your student?" Bai Yutang asked Zhan Zhao as he watched Li Feifan walk away quickly.

"Yeah." Zhan Zhao nodded. "His name is Li Feifan. He's the monitor for Class One of the psychology department. He has excellent grades and received a full scholarship last year."

"..." Bai Yutang nodded, his expression unreadable.

"What? Is there something wrong with him?" Zhan Zhao asked.

"Haha." Bai Yutang leaned in and whispered into Zhan Zhao's ear with a smile, "He's been watching from the sidelines since the moment we got out of the car—for a full ten minutes or so. He must have known a long time ago that we came here together, right?"

...!...

Zhan Zhao stared at Bai Yutang in surprise. "Are you serious?"

Bai Yutang shrugged. "Aside from him, there are plenty of other people watching us."

...?...

Zhan Zhao was just digesting these words when an earth-shattering wave of screams echoed from overhead. The decibel level was so high that it startled Zhan Zhao, causing him to instinctively look up—only to see the female students of the entire building packed tightly against the windows, poking their heads out to look down at him and Bai Yutang with expressions of wild excitement.

People always said that one woman was equivalent to two hundred ducks. If that were true, there were at least millions of ducks in this building. The sheer commotion of them screaming all at once drew the attention of the entire campus...

"Professor... your boyfriend is so handsome..."

Once he clearly heard what the psychology girl with the loudest voice was shouting, Zhan Zhao's face turned white with rage. What was even more infuriating was that Bai Yutang actually took off his sunglasses, looked up at the girls on the upper floors, and flashed them a dazzling smile...

"Ah!!" The decibel level of the screams shot up by another two octaves...

Zhan Zhao forcefully dragged Bai Yutang, who was still thoroughly enjoying himself, into the psychology department building.

"Haha..." Once inside, Bai Yutang practically doubled over with laughter. "Cat, your students are truly shocking and scandalous!"

"Shut up!" Zhan Zhao's face flushed a deep crimson. "White Mouse! Get the hell out of here! How am I supposed to come back and teach classes after this??"

"Haha... you might as well stop teaching these classes as soon as possible." The memory of it was just too hilarious, leaving Bai Yutang panting from laughter. "Those girls are even more terrifying than your psychiatric patients..."

Zhan Zhao ground his teeth and was about to reach for his gun when an austere, icy scolding echoed from behind them: "Doctor Zhan!"

Frowning the moment he heard the voice, Zhan Zhao turned around and indeed found two people standing behind him.

"Professor Xu, Doctor Zhang." Zhan Zhao greeted the two with a hint of awkwardness.

Bai Yutang sized them up. This Professor Xu was a small old man in his fifties with a completely bald head and a textbook academic look. Behind his thick, high-prescription glasses, a pair of tiny eyes glared intently at Zhan Zhao, his gaunt face filled with displeasure.

The slightly younger one must be Doctor Zhang. He was in his forties with a baby face and looked very amiable. Seeing Zhan Zhao greet him, he quickly smiled back, "Doctor Zhan," and politely nodded toward Bai Yutang as well.

"Doctor Zhan hasn't forgotten what kind of place this is, has he?" Professor Xu asked rather cuttingly, his lips tightly pursed.

Zhan Zhao smiled uncomfortably and didn't reply, but Bai Yutang's expression had already shifted.

Standing behind Professor Xu, Doctor Zhang hurriedly intervened, "Doctor Zhan, your class is about to start soon, isn't it?"

"Yes, it is." Zhan Zhao said "goodbye," wanting to slip away, but Professor Xu didn't seem willing to let it drop. He pressed on relentlessly, saying, "As role models for the students, knowledge is one thing, but personal virtue and moral conduct are another. Do not perform such indecent acts that offend public decency in a sacred place like a school building!"

Zhan Zhao had already been pulling a dark-faced Bai Yutang away to leave, but hearing Professor Xu's words, he stopped dead in his tracks. No matter how mild-mannered Zhan Zhao's temper usually was, he could not stomach such insulting remarks.

Just as he was about to argue back, Bai Yutang suddenly spoke up, asking Professor Xu, "Professor, when you say 'offend public decency,' I wonder what exactly you are referring to?"

Professor Xu froze for a moment.

Bai Yutang immediately followed up, "I wonder if you mean something like this?" Before the words even finished drifting through the air, he pulled the still-dazed Zhan Zhao into his arms, lowered his head, and kissed him right on the lips.

Amidst the earth-shattering shriek of the female students, Bai Yutang's textbook French kiss successfully caused Professor Xu's blood pressure to spike, triggering a sudden heart attack…
