Zhan Zhao Adventures - Chapter Seven (Part I)
Chapter Seven: Mulan Flowers Slow (Part I)
Seeing his casual attentiveness, Xue Laogen's heart for some reason gave a tremble; he had already submissively and shrinkingly stood up.
The heavy pressure of life had already caused his back to be deeply hunched down; upon his face, it had carved the vicissitudes and traces of time, carving out his character, to only say words the guests wanted to hear, and words that must be said.
"Is the official wanting to be ferried to the opposite bank?"
The yellow-shirted youth slowly nodded his head. His head appeared as if it had also become unspeakably heavy.
Xue Laogen obediently put down the flag within his hand, and turned his body to fetch the boat oar that had consistently been propped on the riverbank. Yet another piece of work that could be earned meant that on this day's evening, the steamed buns on the small dining table would be thicker, and the soup would be richer.
When he turned his head again, he discovered that that yellow-jacketed youth had already sat down within the boat.
But this youth's hand had already been slightly raised. What was pinched within his hand was precisely that single pearl taken down from his own lapel.
The magnificent and innocent brilliance of that pearl caused Xue Laogen's chest to tighten, and his lips moved slightly, not knowing what this strange youth unexpectedly wanted to do in the end.
Looking at Xue Laogen's bewildered gaze, this yellow-jacketed youth within the boat slowly spoke out a single sentence. His voice, to Xue Laogen's ears, was unexpectedly unspeakably hoarse and suppressed.
"If you tell me what happened here today, this single pearl will then be yours."
Xue Laogen could not help but take a step backward. His legs were already turning weak. He could not say clearly whether or not he himself was dreaming.
To tell this youth everything meant that he himself would have to live through today's nightmare all over again. No matter what, he also did not want to think of this nightmare. It was only that if he did not tell him, he was however also loath to part with this wealth dropping from heaven that could make him not have to worry about the life of his remaining half-lifetime.
The water waves rippled, and beneath the sun that had already slightly slanted to the west, reflected a faint yet piercingly bright scale-like light.
The dream appeared as if departing yet not departing, but the person was however already about to depart.
His lips had already begun to tremble.
The yellow-shirted youth within the boat, however, appeared as if he did not care about anything at all, and was not anxious about anything.
His hand was very steady; the pearl within his hand appeared as if it were even brighter than his eyes.
He appeared as if he fundamentally was not looking at this person Xue Laogen. His eyes gazed up at the leisurely white clouds surging with the wind in the sky.
The white clouds departed, and there would still be white clouds coming again. What about a person?
