Blossom through the Cloud - Chapter 56
Chapter 56
Ruan Suxian had never known that Jiangcheng, the city where she had lived for over twelve years, could be so breathtakingly beautiful.
The Super Star roared through the 500-foot altitude, chasing the direction of the flowing water against the morning breeze. With white clouds as companions and the glow of dawn paving the way, it soared past countless jade-cold streams, suddenly opening up a vast vista where mountains glowed with brilliance, rivers charmed, and fertile fields stretched for thousands of miles.
Ruan Suxian had never been someone who pursued sheer speed. She didn't fly fast, and when they reached the airspace above Cheng Lake, she switched from forward flight to circling, pointing ahead as she said, "I came here to learn how to swim when I was a kid. I jumped in wearing a swimming ring, but the ring slipped away faster than I did, and it drifted off before I even got into the water. Do you know what I saw that day?"
Fu Mingyu propped his head with one hand, thought for a moment, and said, "The Dragon King?"
"Ha."
This dad joke was mildly funny, yet not entirely funny—the kind of humor that stopped abruptly right in its tracks.
"I saw crabs crawling in the water, and strings of bubbles floating upward."
She said, "I always used to think bubbles only existed underwater in paintings. Turns out they're real."
This was the first time she had ever talked to him about her childhood.
Fu Mingyu turned his head. With her eyes lowered and her gaze slanted downward toward the river surface, she spoke calmly.
"And then I swallowed several mouthfuls of water." She suddenly chuckled. "You know what? The water in Cheng Lake is sweet."
"I know."
Ruan Suxian raised an eyebrow. "You came here to swim when you were a kid, too?"
She had assumed someone raised in his kind of family wouldn't come out to such wild places.
"No." Fu Mingyu seemed to recall something, smiled, and pointed backward. "Haven't you ever seen the end of Cheng Lake?"
Ruan Suxian shook her head.
Cheng Lake was a special through-flow lake rather than a stagnant body of water. Its shape was long and narrow, somewhat wider than a river, and its current speed was greater than that of an ordinary live-water lake.
In the past, the furthest she had ever gone was upstream to take a look. Beyond that point, there were virtually no roads or other modes of transportation, so she had never ventured out to see it.
Fu Mingyu pointed back. "Turn around, head upstream against the current. The end of Cheng Lake is gorgeous."
Ruan Suxian turned her head for a quick glance. Cheng Lake stretched out as far as the eye could see, gradually disappearing into the mountain gorges ahead, looking as though there genuinely might be something worth exploring.
"Sit tight, President Fu." Ruan Suxian made a hand gesture. "Captain Ruan is at your service."
As soon as her words fell, Fu Mingyu lurched slightly from the inertia.
He promptly reached out to grab the handrail, turning his head to see Ruan Suxian smiling with her eyes crinkled into crescents, her eyelashes clearly defined. The morning glow streamed across her face, carrying a serene tranquility that stood in stark contrast to their current flight speed.
He watched her for a long time, inexplicably unwilling to look away, as if he could never see enough of her.
Ruan Suxian flew for a full twenty minutes or so before crossing that mountain range, boosting her speed along the way.
She hadn't known before that the end of Cheng Lake was hidden so deeply. Water cascaded down sheer cliffs amidst towering pines and lush cypresses, looking like the Milky Way hanging upside down or the vast ocean pouring over.
The aircraft circled at a high altitude, and the splashing water droplets felt as though they might crash right against her windshield.
Ruan Suxian felt a wave of emotion.
Sure enough, certain sceneries could only be witnessed by the wealthy.
"Did you used to come and hang out in a place like this? It feels like there are no roads at all, let alone any people."
Ruan Suxian asked.
"I came during summer vacation in college," Fu Mingyu said. "At that age, you like seeking thrills."
Ruan Suxian's temple suddenly twitched, and she turned to look at him.
Seeing him half-closing his eyes with an expression of deep nostalgia, he murmured, "An unforgettable experience of a lifetime."
"..."
Relying on a woman's sixth sense, Ruan Suxian felt he was probably recalling a genuinely unforgettable experience.
This godforsaken place certainly offered plenty of thrills, alright.
"Oh, looks like you remember it quite clearly."
Fu Mingyu turned leisurely, staring at Ruan Suxian's profile, and suddenly smiled.
"It is very clear. The weather that day, the clothes I wore, the feeling all over my body—I can still recall it all to this day. We sat there from dusk until deep into the night..."
From dusk until deep into the night???
Are you seriously that incredible, damn it???
What, are you planning to give me a detailed description of your prowess next?!
"Shut up." Ruan Suxian suddenly dropped their altitude. "If you're still looking for thrills, I can satisfy you right now."
